C. Donald MacKenzie, 67, Bible Hill, passed away peacefully Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008 in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born May 29, 1940 in Central North River, he was a son of the late Charles and Edna (Lynds) MacKenzie. Donald worked with his uncle in the woods for years and then worked in the construction industry at various places until his retirement. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and spending time at his camp in Nuttby Acres. Donald is survived by his wife of 45 years, Leila Irene MacNeil; daughters, Donna (Gary) Love, Toronto; Brenda (Larry) Smith, Bible Hill; Barbara Ann “Barbie” (Dave) Matthews, Hamilton, Ont.; Jacqueline “Jackie” Smith, Bible Hill; Sandra MacKenzie (John Hatfield), Truro Heights; Cherie (Tim) Atkinson, Harmony; grandchildren, Spencer and Garrett Love, Kenzie and Cody Smith, Dylan and Brittany Matthews, Michael and Brandon Smith, Ryan Wilson, Jocelyn Hatfield, and Chelsey Atkinson; brother, Carmen MacKenzie (Eileen Purdy), Beansville, Ont.; several nieces and nephews. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall Funeral Home, 55 Young St., Truro. A private family graveside service will be held in the spring in Blackmore Memorial Cemetery, Upper North River. If so desired, donations in Donald’s memory to IWK Children’s Hospital (Burn Unit) or the Spina Bifida Association are welcomed.
