Daniel Murray Gunn

Daniel Murray Gunn, 90, Truro, (formerly of 17 Miller Rd.), passed away suddenly on Monday, March 12, 2007, after a short stay at Meadowland Villa. Born in Earltown, he was a son of the late Arabella (Taylor) and John T. Gunn. He grew up on the family farm and worked as a carpenter prior to joining the CNR where he was employed for 37 years as a trainman and conductor. Murray was an active member of the Brunswick Street United Church. He taught Sunday school, served as an elder for 31 years and was an honorary elder at the time of his death. He was a member of the IOOF Phoenix Lodge #50 and received his 45-year jewel. His hobbies were bowling, fishing, hunting and golfing. He took great pleasure in gardening and sharing the produce with friends and family. He also raised chinchillas, successfully competing and winning in Maritime competitions. Murray loved music, was a member of the Cobequid Twillers square dance club for 20 years and the Jolly 60's club for many years. He enjoyed playing a variety of games, especially crokinole, 45s and cribbage. He was above all a family man who enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Murray is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jean (Ferguson), Truro; son, John (Lynn), Truro; daughter, Karen (Peter) Rowlands, Falmouth; grandchildren, David (Karen), Saint John, N.B.; Andrea (Mark) Bishop, Fredericton, N.B.; Wendy (Scott) Radford, Columbia, Missouri, U.S.A.; Nancy Forbes, Falmouth; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Joshua Gunn, Saint John, N.B.; sister, Thelma (Boyd) Matheson, Tatamagouche. He was predeceased by his parents; sisters, Marion, Elizabeth, Annie and Muriel as well as infant brother, John. Visitation was held Wednesday, March 14, from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Mattatall Funeral Home, 55 Young St., Truro. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. today in the Brunswick Street United Church, 250 Brunswick St., Truro, B2N 2J3. Rev. David Lutes officiating, with a reception to follow the service in the church hall. Interment will then be held in the Earltown Village Cemetery. Family flowers only.
