Elizabeth Kirby

Elizabeth K. Kirby, Truro, passed away unexpectedly on March 29, 2008, while vacationing in Florida. Elizabeth was born and raised in Shubenacadie and later completed her education at Success Business College in Truro. She will be remembered throughout the many communities where she lived and was active over the years. In addition to raising four children, Elizabeth was busy teaching Sunday school and leading CGIT and Messengers. Elizabeth served as past president of the ladies auxiliary of the Colchester Regional Hospital, Oxford Curling Club, Truro Ladies’ Curling Club, local chapter IODE and UCW First United. Elizabeth loved travelling with Doug and was a shopper with a keen eye for bargains. She enjoyed crosswords and sewing, and always had a ball of yarn and knitting needles close at hand. Elizabeth also enjoyed reading, playing bridge, and entertaining her many friends. Predeceased by her parents, Gilbert and Lovina Caldwell, and her sister, Pauline (Max) Minugh. Greatly missed by Doug, her husband of 50 years; loving children Paula (Tom) Henley, Berwick; Stephen Kirby, Shortts Lake; Janet (Russell) MacKinlay, Truro; Pamela (Paul) Quinn, Halifax; brother, Bonar (Myrna) Caldwell, Shubenacadie; grandchildren, Sarah and Emma, Hillary and Nicholas and Joel. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Elizabeth’s life will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2008 at 2 p.m. in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro with Rev. Gordon MacLean and Rev. David MacNaughton officiating. Reception to follow the service. Family and friends welcome. Family flowers only. Donations may be made in Elizabeth’s name to a charity of choice or the Colchester Regional Hospital Fund.
