Elizabeth Pearl “Betty” Johnson, 82, Greenfield, passed away peacefully Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008 in Colchester Regional Hospital. Born Feb. 25, 1926 in Newcastle, Pennsylvania, USA, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Olive (Simons) Miller. Betty will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Betty was the beloved wife of George B. Johnson; loving mother to Barbara Terry, Sheila (Gordon) Hobson, Sharon (Jim) Burrs, Darlene Laird; stepdaughter Edith (Darrell) Lynds; stepson Ben (Wendy); grandchildren Joan, Diane, Ross, Margaret, Sharlene, Jeff, Chris, Alicia, Adam and Erin; great-grandchildren Serena, Hailey, Jessica and Joshua; sister Pat; sister-in-law Mickey Miller; nephews Bill Jr. Miller and Donald Dettour. She was predeceased by son Tommy; sister Liona Dettour; brothers Warren, Harry and Bill Miller; niece Terry Dettour; sons-in-law Walter Terry and Jack Laird. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young St., Truro, where Betty’s family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008 and where the funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 15, 2008, Reverend Ebbie W. Snow officiating. Reception to follow. Interment will then be held in Crossroads Cemetery, Valley. In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty’s memory to Palliative Care or ICU at Colchester Regional Hospital or a charity of choice are welcomed.
