GRINDER - Rubel Mildred, formerly of Swift Current, passed away at Coteau Range Manor, Avonlea, SK, on Friday, January, 23, at the age of 88. The memorial service for Mrs. Rubel Grinder was held on Wednesday, January 28, 2009, at 2:00 PM from the St. Olaf lutheran Church in Swift Current, SK, with Pastor Greg Kiel officiating. The interment service for Rubel was held at the Mount Pleasant Burial Park in Swift Current. She was predeceased by her husband Harol, and parents Julius and Alma Brown. She is survived by her only child Brenda (Brian Williams); grandsons Bradley (Karen) and their children Reece, Connor and Monet, Steven (Nancy) and their children Calvin and Kate, Chris (Cara); her brother Joey(Lisette) Brown; sister Violet Tangen; sisters-in-law Myrtle(Leonard Sabine), Ruth Gloeckler and Jennie(Vic) Fontaine; plus numerous nieces and nephews. Rubel was born on the family homestead in the Neidpath district on September 1, 1920. She worked at various places in the district cooking and cleaning. She went out to Vancouver in 1941, to work as a housekeeper and cook and then came back to Regina a couple of years later to work. She married Harold in 1951, where they resided and worked side by side on the family farm until 1976. They then moved to Pioneer Lodge where she lived until 2004. We will miss her homemade buns, tarts, donuts, lefse, cookies, etc that she loved to cook and bake. Rubel enjoyed curling, horseshoes, playing cards especially cribbage and going to bingo. However the highlight of her life was getting together with family and friends, whether it was a birthday party, special occasion or just a Sunday afternoon. As the grandsons became involved in hockey, she became an avid fan of the Milestone Flyers. She loved to come to Milestone for a visit and take part in whatever they were doing, along with baking all the things they liked. She was a member of the Neidpath Ladies Aid and helped with many suppers, bake sales etc. over the years. In 2004, she moved to Coteau Range Manor. Her quiet pleasing manner won over the wonderful staff that cared for her these last few years. Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, January 28, at 2PM from St Olaf Lutheran Church, 665 Central Ave. N, Swift Current. Pastor Greg Kiel officiating.
