Roger Lane Mccormick

MWO Retired, 69 years, Douglas Drive, Springhill. It is with great sadness that the McCormick family announce the passing of Roger on Thursday, March 20, 2008 at his residence, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Springhill, he was the son of Hilda (Tower) McCormick of Springhill and the late Daniel McCormick. Roger served with the Royal Black Watch First Battalion Regiment for 9 years and 12 years with the Nova Scotia Highland Regiment B Company, Springhill. Most of his working life was spent in Springhill, having been employed 34 years with Corrections Canada. He was an avid woodsman, enjoyed fishing, hunting and 4-wheeling at Fountain Lake, and spent his summers at his cottage in West Pugwash. Roger touched the lives of many people with his kind heart, generosity and friendly personality. He is survived by his wife, the former Virginia MacDonald. Sons, Mark (Angel) McCormick and Leo (Chantal) McCormick both of Springhill. His greatest love, his grandchildren, Samantha, Stephanie, Mathieu and Nicholas. Sister, Judy (Doug) Austin of Montreal. Several nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. Visitations were held 7-9 pm on Monday, March 24 and 1-2 pm on Tuesday, March 25, from where the memorial funeral service followed at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, with the Reverend Brieanna Andrews officiating, assisted by Father David MacDonald, all held in A.H. Brown Funeral Home, Springhill. A reception immediately followed the service at the funeral home. Burial in North Street Roman Catholic Cemetery, Springhill, at a later date.
