(Bill) Corner Brook, NL Passed peacefully away at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital, Corner Brook, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, May 11, 2008 Elihu William Matthews, in his 92nd year. Leaving to celebrate his life are daughters: Shirley (Bill) White of Fredericton, Yvonne (George) King of Corner Brook, and Judy (Tom) Strong of St. John's; grandchildren: Brad (Kristina) White, Darren (Debra) White, Christine White (David Serviss), Brian (Darla) King, Lori (Doug) Piercey, Maria King, Laura Strong (Andrew Wright), Matthew Strong, and Karen (Andrew) Nell-Bennett; great-grandchildren: Nathan and Bethany King, Ainsleigh and Keegan Piercey, Andrew and Samuel White, and Finn, Kennedy and Riley Serviss; sisters: Marjorie (Clarence) Jackman of Corner Brook, Audrey (Peter) Nell of St. John's; sisters-in-law: Helen Milley, Jean Rowsell and Blanche (Cyril) Vey; brother-in-law, Tom Rowsell; and a large number of nieces and nephews. He leaves many friends, particularly his loyal friend, Fred Hawkins; and his many companions at Mountain View Estates, especially Doris Atkinson and Mike & Mary Yetman. He was predeceased by his wife, Doris Marie Matthews and brother, Chesley Milley. Resting at Country Haven Funeral Home, 167 Country Road, Corner Brook with visitation on Monday, May 12, 2008 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday, May 13, 2008 from 10 a.m. - 12 noon. The funeral service will be held at First United Church, Park Street on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Wayne Cole officiating. Interment at Mount Patricia Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.
