Aged 62 years, passed away peacefully in the presence of her loving family on Saturday, May 17, 2008, after more than 12 years of battling cancer. She is predeceased by her parents James and Mary Walsh. Joan leaves to mourn her loving husband of 42 years, James Prowse; three children Brenda Collins, James Prowse Jr. (Nancy) and Stephen Prowse (Rachel); two dear grandsons Nigel Collins and Brendan Prowse; brothers James Walsh (Verna) and Ron Walsh (Gen); sisters Bernice Hanlon (Chuck), Shirley Badcock (Crowley), Mary Clouston (Rob) and Marian Walsh; Peter Collins, Wayne Shaw, cousin Flo Wilson (Earl), many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and a large circle of friends. Special heartfelt thanks to Sharyn Byrne and the Supper Club, Carol Squires, Eleanor Mulcahy, Drs. Joy McCarthy and Tony Rolfe, Ron and Gen Walsh, and all the marvelous staff at the Dr. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre, Health Sciences Centre and Palliative Care at the Miller Centre. All of your exceptional care, compassion and love gave her strength over these years and especially the last few weeks. Visitation at Caul's Funeral Home, LeMarchant Rd. from 7 -9 p.m., Sunday, May 18. and 2-4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. Monday, May 19. Funeral Mass at St. Theresa's Church, Mundy Pond, at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 20. Cremation and private family ceremony to follow. Flowers are welcome as are donations in Joan's name to the charity of one's choice. Throughout her long struggle we witnessed a rare and humble strength, unflinching faith and tremendous courage - she was steady unto death. She will never know the number of lives she touched. She inspired us all. We love her and will miss her, but can treasure many precious memories of her until we meet again.
