Paul. W. Fardy

Passed away peacefully on May 17, surrounded by his family, in Waterloo. A proud father, grandfather, and Newfoundlander. Survived by Teresa (Beresford), his beloved wife and best friend of 50 years. Happily remembered by his children, Brian (Maria) of Halifax, Mark (Michelle) of Waterloo, Marie (Russ) Loan of Waterloo, Paul of Toronto, and Joanne (Brian) Brophy of St. John's. Wonderful Poppy to Adam, Eric, Nicole, Kristin, Brendan, Mark, Laura, and Kate. Survived by his brother Darce (Dorthea), and sister Margaret O'Brien. Fondly remembered by his in-laws, the family of Jim and Nelly Beresford. Predeceased by his father Hugh, mother Mary, and siblings Hugh, Frank and Mary. Paul was a proud graduate of St. Bon's, Memorial, Dalhousie, University of Toronto, and McGill. A dedicated microbiologist and professor, Dr. Fardy's career covered a span of over 40 years with the Department of Public Health, retiring as Director in 1993. From his roles at General Hospital and St. Clare's to teaching at MUN's Faculty of Medicine, and his activities with the school board and parish council, Paul brought a balance of professionalism, energy and humour to every endeavor. Cremation has taken place. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 7-9 p.m. at Caul's Funeral Home at 84 LeMarchant Road, in St. John's on Friday, May 23. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Corpus Christi Church, at 260 Waterford Bridge Rd., St. John's. Donations in his memory to the Canadian Cancer Society and Canadian Red Cross would be appreciated by the family.
