Caribou River – It is with deep love and sadness the family announce the passing of John William “Bill” Grant, of Caribou River, on Tuesday, October 30, 2007, in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by his family. Born March 8, 1933 in New Glasgow, he was a son of Dorothy (Daley) Grant, Caribou River, and the late John W. Grant. Bill worked for a few years as a mechanic at Modern Motors Garage, Pictou. He then worked with the Pictou Fisheries School from 1963 until retirement in 1991. He also fished for many years. His family, fishing, and hunting were his great passions in life. Bill was a quiet, intelligent man with a ready smile, who could be counted on for an answer to any question you had, and was always one of the first to help anyone, without question, in whatever way he could. Besides his mother, Bill will be greatly missed by his wife of 51 years, Marion (Falconer); sons: David, Caribou River; Alex (Sheila), Toney River; Peter (Carolyn), Caribou River; daughters, Linda (James) Cameron, Seafoam; Mary (David Holmes), Hedgeville; 13 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; sister, Peg Holmes, River John; brothers: Jim (Carol), Foxbrook; Eddie (Irene), Caribou River; Ira (Barbara Ann) and Roy (Helen), Three Brooks. Along with his father, Bill was predeceased by his precious daughter, Terri; brother, Roddie; and brother-in-law, Maurice Holmes. Visitation will be held 2-4, and 7-9 p.m. Friday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday from First Presbyterian Church, Pictou, with Rev. Iona MacLean officiating. Burial will be in Caribou River Upper Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Donations in his memory may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of Aberdeen Hospital, or a charity of your choice. “The really great person is the one who makes everyone feel great.” -G.K.
