WESTVILLE ROAD – Charles Douglas Kontuk, 76, Westville Road, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2008, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Archibald and Mary (Kowalski) Kontuk. As a young man, Charlie worked at the MacGregor Mine. He then joined the Canadian Army and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. After his service career, he was employed at Dickson Bros. Transfer and then as a bouncer and waiter at the Colonial Tavern for several years. He was an avid hunter and sport fisherman enjoying the time spent at his camp. However his greatest pleasure was spending time with his family and friends and special friend, Jake. He will be sadly missed by his best friend and soulmate of 57 years, wife, Hazel (Butler); daughter, Terry MacLaughlin (Wayne), Westville; sons: Charles “Chuckie” (Barb), Salt Springs; David, Westville Road; Michael (Heather), Westville; Richard (Kari), Gairloch; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Mary MacDonald, Munro Ave. Ext.; brother, Fred, Stellarton and several nieces and nephews. Charlie was predeceased by his sister, Jean “Tiny” Leslie and brothers, Archie, John and Bobby. Cremation has taken place. There will be no funeral service. His family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m., Sunday, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Terry and Wayne MacLaughlin, 2387 Highfield Street, Westville. Donations in his memory may be made to the Palliative Care Society or to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Eagles Funeral Home, Westville.
