Daniel Francis "Don" Mckean

Daniel Francis “Don” McKean, 63, Terrace Heights Dr, New Glasgow, and formerly of Chance Harbour Road, RR 1 Trenton, passed away in the Palliative Care Unit, Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, Saturday, April 19, 2008, surrounded by his loving wife and daughters after a lengthy battle with Cerebellar Ataxia. Having grown up on the Chance Harbour Road, he was a son of Marian (Baillie) McKean, Chance Harbour Road and the late Willis McKean. Don followed in his parents’ footsteps by continuing in the floral industry. He began his career working alongside his parents in their greenhouses on Chance Harbour Road, going on to help them establish and grow from a wholesale business to a successful retail flower shop in New Glasgow. McKean’s Flowers Ltd. continues to stay in the family as a third generation business. Don devoted his life to loving and taking care of his family. As a husband, he was a best friend; as a son, he was dedicated; as a Dad, his love was unconditional; as a brother, he was faithful; and as a Papa, he was proud. He enjoyed racing stock cars, curling, playing hockey, swimming, hunting and fishing. Don shared his mother’s quick wit and sharp sense of humour. He loved to laugh as much as he liked to make people laugh. He is survived by his wife, Judy (Wynn); his daughters: Pauline (Aurel) LeLièvre, Grand Etang; Suzanne (Tom) Makin, Chance Harbour; and Michelle, New Glasgow; his mother Marian, his brother, Bill (Eleanor), Garland; and his granddaughters, Avery and Jenna. He was predeceased by his Dad, Willis, infant sister Patricia, and grandson Benjamin. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow where the family will receive visitors from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. Funeral service 2 p.m. Tuesday in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow, with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Reception to follow in First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow. Family burial in Hillside Cemetery.
