New Glasgow – Dorothy Davis Forbes, of Elm Street, New Glasgow, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2008, at home. Born in Stellarton on September 24, 1922, she was a daughter of the late David and Christena (MacMillan) Thompson. Educated in Stellarton, she was a graduate of the Maritime Business College, New Glasgow. Her first employment was at the Steel Plant in Trenton; Acadia Coal’s Head Office, Stellarton; Revenue Canada, Halifax; C.P. Smith, New Glasgow, and she retired from the Aberdeen Hospital Business Office. She was an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church; former member of Sir Frederick Banting Chapter IODE, Bluenose Curling Club and Abercrombie Golf Club and was an active bridge player. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by her grandson, Dr. Zachary G. Forbes, Utah, USA; daughter-in-law Rosemary Forbes, Alabama, USA; sister-in-law, June Thompson, Stellarton; many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, W.D. “Bill” Forbes; only child, David Roderick; sister, Eleanor Brown; and brother, John Thompson. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Family flowers only. Donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian or American Lung Association or the American Transplant Unit.
