PICTOU - Ester Irene (Birkholm) Johansen, 92, passed away June 17, 2007, in the Shiretown Nursing Home, Pictou. Born June 9, 1915, in Vestervig, Denmark, she was a daughter of the late Christian Peter and Karen Marie (Paulsen) Birkholm. She immigrated with her parents, to Loch Broom in July 1929, later returning to Denmark in 1933. She moved back to Canada in April 1960, with her two children, Dorte and John, to marry Karl Mogensen. Ester is survived by her daughter, Aase Jensen, Dartmouth; son, Jorn Birkholm (Tina), London, Ontario; and daughter, Dorte MacMaster (Edward), Caribou; grandchildren: Jan, Anne, Tina, Mona, Gitte, Nils, Peter, Mads, Jodi, Michael, Teresa, Craig, and Jonathan; 10 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; sister, Mille Lindblad; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 23 years, Karl Mogensen; husband, Phillip Johansen, of Ontario; son, John Miller, of Winnipeg, Manitoba; sisters, Magda Holm, Lydia Jacobsen; brothers: Peter Birkholm, Axel Birkholm, Johannes Birkholm. Memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday from St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Pictou, with Rev. Alan Stewart officiating. Burial will be in Abercrombie Cemetery. Family flowers only please.
