Freda May Macnabb

Passed on: February 2nd, 2008

MacNabb, Freda May, RN, 86, New Glasgow passed away February 2nd, 2008, in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Westville, she was a daughter of the late Howard and Catherine (Cameron) MacIntosh. Freda was educated in Westville and at Pictou Academy. After graduating from the Moncton Hospital School Of Nursing, Freda began her nursing career, working in various hospitals in Moncton, Montreal, Pictou and New Glasgow. She was a very caring nurse loved by all. After Foster’s death she returned to her beloved nursing until she retired as a private duty nurse. As a member of Trinity United Church for more than 50 years, she served as an Explorer Leader, UCW member and was well known as an active worker with the Visitation Committee. She was secretary of her UCW unit for over 15 years. Freda enjoyed singing, knitting and playing bridge. It brought Freda great joy to watch her family grow to love Big Island as passionately as she and Foster did, and thus she named the property “Harmony Hill” - where there have been many joyful and memorable gatherings. Surviving are son, Bert (Louise) MacNabb, Morges, Switzerland; daughters, Cathe (Brian) MacLean, River John; Susan Jane (Roy) Jamieson, New Glasgow; Lynn (Mark) Graves, Wolfville; grandchildren: Larry (Sharon) MacNabb, Cindy (Justin) Sharp, Cheryl (Rick) Giannini, Sharon (Dennis) Faber, Barry MacLean, Heidi Jamieson, Karla (Paul) Sheehan, Jennifer (Justin) Chaisson, Carmen Graves; 12 great grandchildren; brother, Inglis (Hester) MacIntosh; several nieces, nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her husband, Foster; brothers, Clyde and Cecil; sisters, Elva and Muriel; and grandson, Adam MacLean. Family flowers only please. The family will receive visitors from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday in the H. W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday from Trinity United Church, New Glasgow with Rev. Jim Webber-Cook officiating. Burial will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. If so desired, donations in Freda’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, the Victorian Order of Nurses, Trinity United Church Choir Fund, or a charity of one’s choice.
