PICTOU LANDING FIRST NATION - Gilbert Kenneth Knockwood Francis, age 61 of Pictou Landing First Nation, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 8, 2007, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Dennis and Alice (Knockwood) Francis. Gilbert worked for several years in Boston and spent some time in the United States Army. Gilbert was an avid hockey and ball player in his younger years. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church. Surviving are his wife, May Francis, Pictou; special friend, Audrey Francis; son, Kenneth Peter (Nancy), Eskasoni; grandchildren: Elyse, Brett, Breanne and Blake; sisters: Mary Lou (Anthony Nicholas), Linda (Dave Hines), Ann (Donnie Muise), Linda Lou, Deanna (Joe Gerrior), all of Pictou Landing First Nation; Dolores (Diana) Christmas, Membertou; brothers: Don (Melane), Dennis (Marguerite), Roddie (Shirley), Alan (Mary), John, all of Pictou Landing First Nation; a number of nieces and nephews Gilbert was predeceased by a brother, Randall. His remains will rest in the meeting room of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 6535 Pictou Landing Road from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. Donations in memory of Gilbert may be made to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
