Passed peacefully away with his family at his side at the Health Sciences Centre on Friday, May 23, 2008. Abdalla was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend and surgeon. He is deeply missed by his loving wife Sylvia and four daughters Sarah, Ruth, Susanne and Louise; his son-in-law Edward Quinn, David Mohsen Demian, Gerard Buckingham and Kevin Harrison; and his 16 grandchildren Eric and Sonja Hanna-Quinn; Daniel, Rachel, Michael, Anna, Benjamin, Nathan and Joel Demian; Robyn, Paul, Sarah and Lisa Buckingham and Emma, Joel and Holly Harrison. He is survived by his sisters Zehour and Mary Hanna. He was preceded in death by his brothers Mounir and Fayek and sister Angel. Also saddened are his nieces and nephews and their families. This loss is also felt by his many friends and colleagues. Abdalla graduated from medical school in Cairo and completed his surgical residency in New York. He worked briefly in London where he met Sylvia. Together they chose Newfoundland as their home where he began his medical practice at the Burin Cottage Hospital. For the next 40 years he served tirelessly as a surgeon in St. John's and has touched families in all parts of Nfld. and Labrador. He was a man of great integrity and lived his life fully dedicated to his family and his patients. We would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at The Health Sciences Centre for the care they provided to him and the support they showed our family. Visitation will take place at Carnell's Funeral Home on Sunday, 7-9 p.m., Monday 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., Tuesday 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The Funeral will be at Gower St. United Church on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Daffodil House.
