HALIFAX - Hazel Phyllis Jane Ireman (nee Heighton), 77, resident of Saint Vincent's Guest House, Halifax, passed away at the residence on Easter morning, April 8, 2007. Born January 17, 1930, in Pictou, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Jane (Redpath) Heighton. Hazel had a lifelong career working in hospitals in Montreal and Wolfville as a registered nurse and she raised five children. She will be remembered for putting the needs of others before her own and always lending a hand. Predeceased by her son, Russell, she leaves to mourn her four daughters: Beverly (Gilles) of Sutton, Quebec, Joyce of Montreal, Janice of Charleston, South Carolina and Adelaide of Halifax. Hazel had 13 grandchildren, the eldest, Katie (daughter of Joyce) being recently married in January 2007 to Sammy, and three generations of nieces and nephews. Surviving are sisters, Nita, Pictou; Janet, Halifax; brothers: Vernon (Margaret), Ottawa; Lloyd, Toronto; Gordon (Mary), Guelph, Ont.; Vincent (Florence), Halifax; Anderson (Grace) and Bruce (Eleanor), Pictou. Hazel was predeceased by sisters, Irene and Joyce; brothers: Gerald, Robert and Almour. Cremation has taken place. Family and friends will be welcomed at McLaren Funeral Home in Pictou at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 19, followed by the liturgy at 2 p.m. and the burial in St. James Cemetery. Reception afterwards. In lieu of flowers it would be appreciated if donations were made in Hazel's memory to St. James Anglican Church, Pictou, or the Recreation Department of St. Vincent's Guest House, Halifax.
