She retired there after many years as an Occupational Therapist. Jessie joined the Rebekah Lodge in 1926. She was Past Noble Grand in 1956. She was an 81-year member of the IOOF. Jessie was always competitive and athletic. She played softball and other sports when only a child. She was known to carry her youngest brother around the bases when playing softball and baby sitting at the same time. She had a busy bowling career upon moving to Massachusetts from Nova Scotia in the 1930s. She served on four teams at one time. She helped write the bowling column for the Belmont and Watertown papers for a number of years. She gave up team bowling in 1992 when in her words, "the ball doesn't go where I want it to anymore." After she was told that nobody cared, she quickly pointed out that SHE cared. She continued her sports interest with bridge and cribbage into the 2000/2010 decade, still competing in cribbage at the Watertown Senior Center on Tuesdays. Jessie remained an active sports fan with the Boston Bruins and the Red Sox. When both had games on at the same time she would have one playing on TV and one on radio. Jessie and her late husband, Fred enjoyed many years at their cottage on Caribou Island starting in 1973. Many family and friends visited them at the cottage. Jessie, in turn, enjoyed the opportunity to visit many of her family around the country: Alaska, Oregon, California, Nevada, Hawaii, Florida and Washington, D.C.
