John Clifford Allen

LINACY - John Clifford Allen, 88, Linacy, passed away, Saturday, January 20, 2007 at home. Born in Diligent River, Cumberland Co., he was a son of the late John Clifford and Evelyn Maude (Ewan) Allen. He began working in the lumber camps as a teenager. He joined The Three Rivers Regiment during the Second World War. He served in Scotland, England, Germany, France, Italy, Holland and North Africa. He married Helen P. Beattie in Dundee, Scotland on September 26, 1945. She joined him in Canada following the War. He was employed with the former Tidewater Construction for 23 years as a welder and with Michelin Tire until retirement. Clifford was a member of the Michelin Retirees Club and the former Army, Navy, Air Force Unit 395. His pet dog, Wolf, was his constant companion. Surviving are daughter, Doreen Foote, New Glasgow; son, Jim (Ann) Allen, New Glasgow; companion, Lois Kennedy; brother, Clarence (Eileen) Allen, Diligent River; grandsons: Jamie (Barbara) Foote, Michael Foote (Jamie), Ken (Ina) Allen, Steven Allen (Tammy), and Brian Allen (Julie); great-grandchildren: Justin and Cailin Allen, Jeremy Halliday and Jacob Foote; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Helen. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors 7-9 p.m. today in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel with Ms. Lori Crocker, Diaconal Minister, officiating. Private interment will follow in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. No flowers by request. Donations may be made in his memory to the Pictou County S.P.C.A.
