Mabel Catherine Munro

Mabel Catherine (MacQuarrie) Munro, of Westville, formerly of Union Centre, passed away January 19, 2008, in Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow. Born in Lorne, N.S., February 13, 1919, she was a daughter of the late John and Annie (MacPherson) MacQuarrie. Mabel graduated from Provincial Normal College, Truro, and spent her teaching career at Lansdowne, West River, Riverton, Pictou, Rocklin and West Pictou Elementary. She was an active member of the Middle River Presbyterian Church, singing in the choirs, etc. and a lifetime member of the A.M.S. She was a longtime member of the Crystal Fountain Rebekah Lodge. She is survived by sons, Laurence MacKay, Union Centre, and Barry (Lynne) MacKay, Barrie, Ont.; grandsons, Travas (Danielle) MacKay, Hull, Que.; Jonathan MacKay, Union Centre; and Devon MacKay, Stellarton; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Jacob MacKay, Que.; step-granddaughter, Tracy Rowe (Brent) and her children, Brooke and Blake, Moncton, N.B.; step-son, Bruce Munro, Bridgewater; and step-daughter, Beth Thomson (Bill), Westville; step-grandchildren, Chris and Cindy Thompson and step-great-grandchild Riley. She is also survived by sisters, Almira Russell, Anne Munro, Lorna Graham; and brother, Byrchill (Marie); and sisters-in-law Madeline MacQuarrie and Elaine MacQuarrie; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, J. Albert MacKay, Lansdowne; her second husband, Raymond Bruce Munro, Westville; sisters, Helen Mountain, and Shirley Tait; and brothers, John Alex and Edgar MacQuarrie. Visitations will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. Her funeral service will be held 2 o’clock Wednesday from Middle River Presbyterian Church, Rocklin, with Rev. Gary Tonks officiating. Burial will be in Gairloch Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in her memory may be made to any charity of ones choice.
