Mary "Mae" Toole

PICTOU - Mary "Mae" Toole. After a courageous battle with cancer, Mae died peacefully in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, on Sunday, July 22, 2007. Mae was born in Inverkeithing, Scotland, and moved to Scotsburn, Nova Scotia, with her parents, the late David and Jessie (Arthur) Fergus, and brother, David. She attended Pictou Academy, and worked in Pictou most of her life. She met her husband, Richard "Ritchie", while working in Pictou. They were married for over 65 years. She was a registrar for the Rotary Club Easter Seals Children's Clinic for over 25 years, a former member of the Pictou Kinettes, Rotary Anns, the Pictou Golf Club and Pictou Curling Club, as well as an avid bridge player. Besides her parents, Mae was predeceased by her two children, Kevin and Kathryn, and her brother, David. She is survived by her husband, Richard, three brothers, Arthur (late Mildred), and Leonard (Lucille), both of Ontario, Charles (Marg), Trenton; two sisters, Roberta Galbraith, Pictou, and Alexa Watters, Scotsburn; daughter-in-law, Ruthie Toole, Pictou; son-in-law, Wayne Smith, Halifax; grandchildren, Nikki Toole, Halifax, Lee (Alana) Toole, Pictou, and Jennifer Falkenham, Truro; great granddaughter, Taylor Toole, Pictou; several nieces and nephews. Many thanks to the V.O.N. and Home Care workers who attended Mae with such compassion and loving care. Thanks also to Dr. Burrill, Dr. Farrell, the many nurses of the Palliative Care Unit, and the entire Palliative Care team. There will be no visitation by her request. A celebration of Mae's life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday from St. James Anglican Church, Pictou, with Rev. Cathy Laskey and Rev. Bill White officiating. Burial will be in Seaview Cemetery. A reception will follow. Family flowers only please. Donations may be made to the V.O.N., the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society, or a charity of your choice.
